Taking from those who have nothing

I found this weeks readings a bit upsetting and disheartening. CDRO was put in place to help the people and encourage development in the small towns of Guatemala, however it seemed to do more hurt then harm. CDRO was supposed to be giving back to San Pedro, however the council men felt that they were just a pawn and were the last thing on CDRO's mind.
I was most fascinated with the pop weave as a notable business symbol. Everything seems t revolve around this notable Mayan symbol and when given awards and referenced to in speeches no one ever truly addressed what CDRO was doing specifically. They only mentioned the mat and what the pop symbol meant for the Mayan people. When the founder of Tom's shoes came to speak at out school he spoke of how at time a for profit company can be more effective then a non-profit company, and now I see what he means. Although, CDRO was a non-profit organization they still had a large budget and seemed to only do what was needed to "save face" with donors.
IN everything we have read and all the first hand experiences I have had there is always a conflict and question of who is truly trying to help the people and the community. The natives trying to help are generally of a wealthier class and as DeHart so plainly says, has something to gain from disproving the legitimacy of a company like CDRO, which begs to me ask, who is really ever helping, just to help?
